A focused way to define your outdoor space

You have an empty yard. You dream about creating a new garden. You have no idea where to start. The Garden Room Method will provide that first step, then a few more to help you create a lovely outdoor space.

When I started teaching garden design several years ago I realized there was an information gap for new designers. They wanted to jump to the step of placing plants in the ground, but struggled with where to put them. They were skipping a critical step...creating the overall space or room first.

The Garden Room Method will challenge you to look at landscape design as a series of purposeful outdoor spaces. This workshop will help you design one of those outdoor rooms to assure it's thoughtful and useful.

Garden rooms give structure to our outdoor spaces. Just as a skeleton gives our body form, so do garden rooms for our landscape. If you take away the bones, it's just a floppy mess. Let's transform that mess into something beautiful.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You have a new garden space and don't know where to start
  • You've been searching for a way to give structure and form to your landscape
  • You need a step-by-step process to guide your design choices

This workshop is NOT for you if:

  • You are looking for a planting design course (this will not be covered, but look for future workshops on this topic)
  • You would like to create a master plan for your entire landscape. This course will focus on the details of one room, though you can definitely create several rooms in your yard!

The Garden Room Method will be released as an eWorkbook and optional online workshop. Sign up below to receive updates as I progress through development.

Lisa Orgler | Garden Designer & Illustrator

Lisa Orgler is the founder of www.papergardenworkshop.com - a spirited place to learn garden design and graphics.

As a landscape design educator and illustrator, she's been honored with a sprinkling of awards for her art, design skills and teaching.

And if we're being honest, she'd also obsessed with clipped hedges, peanut butter and sparkly alliums.

When not whipping up garden illustrations you can find her pulling weeds, secretly moving plants around in her yard and clipping zinnias in her cutting garden.

Take a peek at the lessons in this workshop:

INTRODUCTION
This lesson will give an overview of how the workshop is structured.

Focus + Function
This lesson will focus on the purpose of your garden room and how it's components should relate to each other spatially.

Form
This lesson will focus on the important step of giving our garden room a strong shape. I'll show you two methods to achieve this.

Floor
Once you've defined the shape of your garden room, it's time to add the details!  This lesson will help you choose materials for the garden floor.

Frame w/ Walls + Ceiling
This lesson will focus on the three-dimensional space of your room by adding walls and a ceiling.

CONCLUSION
We'll wrap it up!
